Ben Alcocer Photography

I came to photography by chance. I was working as a captain and a diver, traveling for work and out of my own curiosity, and on a trip to the Southwest I randomly brought along a pocket sized point and shoot camera. The process caught me immediately and it hasn't let go.

What kept me wasn't the pictures, at least not at first. Photography gave me a reason to leave before dawn, hike a little further, stay out all night. The shot is just the excuse. The experiences are the point.

A week in Iceland settled it. I realized I could spend a lifetime on one small island and still only scratch the surface.

I'm lucky to work for myself and have the freedom to explore. My style is still arriving — some days I want everything the sky will give me, other days almost nothing.

This is a passion project. If it does anything beyond keeping me happy, I hope it gets someone outside, and makes them want to protect what they find there.
